What you’ll do

Is this course for me?

This course is ideal for learners who are interested in exploring different areas of the creative industries and want to develop their practical and personal skills in a supportive environment.

It is suitable if you enjoy being creative, experimenting with ideas and learning new digital and design skills. You may already have an interest in areas such as art, photography, fashion, games or media or you may still be discovering which creative pathway suits you best.

This course may be right for you if you want to:

  • Try a range of creative subjects before choosing a specialism
  • Develop your confidence, communication and teamwork skills
  • Learn practical skills in design, photography, digital media and creative projects
  • Build a portfolio of work to support progression to a Level 2 creative course

It is particularly suited to learners who prefer hands-on, project-based learning and want to develop both their creativity and their readiness for further study.

What you will learn

This Level 1 course, awarded by Gateway Qualifications, provides learners with a broad introduction to the creative industries while developing essential employability skills. During the course, learners will build their confidence in working as part of a team and develop communication skills for the workplace, helping prepare them for future study and employment.

Learners will explore a range of creative disciplines including graphic design, digital photography, art and design, games design, fashion design and moving image. This variety allows learners to experiment with different creative processes, develop practical skills and begin to identify the areas they enjoy most. By the end of the course, learners will have gained a strong foundation in creative practice and transferable skills. This prepares them to progress onto a Level 2 qualification, where they can specialise further in either Art, Design and Fashion or Creative Media.
